In
2007, we began a supplemental nutritional assistance program
outreach to secure
new and unclaimed food dollars for Kauai. As of 12/2008,
this program has brought in over $260,000 in new food
stamp dollars for Kauai. Until the outreach program was
discontinued in late 2011, we were the only food bank in
the State of Hawaii that conducted a formalized food
stamp outreach program and provided pre-screening
application assistance, and help with documentation.
Effective Oct. 31st 2011 the
Kaua’i Independent Food Bank discontinued their
SNAP outreach program. At this time, it is not known if
the KIFB will resume SNAP outreach efforts in the
future. However, the State of Hawaii's Department of
Human Services (DHS) will continue to accept
applications for the SNAP benefit program formerly known
as Food Stamps. They have two offices on Kaua’i to serve
you based upon where you live:
For residents
living between Lihue & Haena on the North Shore, EXCEPT
residents of Hanamaulu – Please visit the DHS office
located in room 103 of the State Office building at 3060
Eiwa St. in Lihue.
For residents living between
Puhi & Kekaha on the West Side, INCLUDING residents of Hanamaulu
– Please visit the DHS office located at 4469 Waialo
Road in the Eleele Shopping Center.
Hours of
operation for both DHS offices are usually 8:00am to
4:30pm, Monday through Friday, excluding all Federal &
